Nepal into ICC U-19 World Cup quarter final despite losing to India



Kathmandu, Feb 1: Nepal has entered the quarterfinal as the first-runner of ‘Group D’ after facing defeat from India in today’s match under the ICC U-19 World Cup taking place in Bangladesh.

Nepal was defeated by India by seven wickets in the final match of ‘Group D’ at Dhaka-based Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.India has entered the final as the winner of the ‘Group D’ by collecting six points while Nepal has entered the quarterfinal as the first runner-up with four points.

Nepal has made it into the quarterfinal in a gap of 16 years. It had sailed into the quarterfinal in the world cup held in 2000, when it had participated for the first time.

Choosing to field first after winning the toss, India completed the target of 170 runs set by Nepal in 18.1 overs. Nepal had collected 169 runs after losing 8 wickets in the slated 48 overs.

Rishav Panta collected 78 runs for India for the victory while Ishan Kisan and Sarfaraj Khan scored 52 and 21 runs respectively.

Prem Tamang took two wickets while Sandeep Lamichhane took one wicket for Nepal.

Sandeep Sunar had contributed 37 runs for Nepal as well as Rajbir Singh, Arif Sheikh, Yogendra Singh Karki, Raju Rijal and Dipendra Singh Airi 35, 26, 7, 6 and one runs respectively.

Nepal had defeated New Zealand by 32 runs in the first match and Ireland by eight wickets in the second match.

Nepal would play with the winner of ‘Group A’.
