Irrigation Ministry introduces new programme



Kathmandu, Feb 7: The Ministry of Irrigation has introduced the ‘One electoral constituency, one irrigation model village’ programme.

Minister for Irrigation Umesh Kumar Yadav today informed the media about the introduction of new programme at a press meet at Singha Durbar.
Installation of at least 100 shallow tube-wells in every electoral constituency and ‘Hello Irrigation’ Minister’ programme to listen to grievances of farmers have been also launched, according to Minister Yadav.
The Ministry has demanded additional budget of Rs 580 million from the Finance Minister to effectively implement the Prosperous Terai-Madhes Irrigation Development Programme, Hilly and High-Hilly Tableland Irrigation Project and other irrigation-related programmes.
Likewise, the Ministry has initiated processes for renaming the Department of Water Induced Disaster Prevention as the Department of Water Induced Disaster Management and bringing in a Water Inducted Disaster Management Act.
Besides, the Ministry is in close touch with other ministries to make arrangements for irrigation facility in the ‘pocket zone’ and increase the agro production.
