Goods confiscated



Kakadbhitta (Jhapa), March 4: The Area Police Office, Budhabare on Thursday intercepted a pick-up van and confiscated textiles worth Rs 1.1 million.

The textiles were being brought from Pashupatinagar of Ilam to Jhapa on the basis of fake VAT bills, according to the police.While carrying out a checking on the Mechi Highway at Shantinagar-6, Jhapa, police found fake VAT bills of 13 rolls of textiles loaded in the van. The van and the cloth has been sent to the Revenue Investigation Office, Itahari for further action, police said.

Meanwhile, police on Thursday handed over to the Mechi Customs Office a large quantity of dried betel nuts and the brooms that it confiscated while it was being smuggled out towards India. The goods were being smuggled out hidden inside a truck, it is stated.

Police had confiscated the brooms and 274 sacks filled with dried betel nut from a truck on Wednesday.
