Minister of State Shahi says local poll government priority



Bhaktapur, March 12: Minister of State for Federal Affairs and Local Development Kunti Kumari Shahi has said the Parliament’s delay in proceeding with a bill related to the local body election has affected the government plan of holding the local poll as soon as possible.

Addressing the 13th AGM of NGO Federation of Nepal, Bhaktapur chapter today, the Minister of State said the government was committed to holding the election of local bodies soon. She called on the civil society representatives to mount pressure on the bodies concerned to create at atmosphere conducive for holding the election soon as development endevours at the local level have been affected in the absence of local government.
CPN (UML) central leader Som Mishra, lawmaker Kedar Sanjel, Bhaktapur’s Chief District Officer Tej Prasad Poudel, Local Development Officer Dhurab Prasad Adhikari, Federation central treasurer Jitram Lama, Bhaktapur Chapter vice president Jun Basnet and secretary Som Sharma ( Bajgain) admired the supporting role of NGOs in bringing about drastic changes in the country. The NGOs programmes should reach out to the poor, they stressed.
