Global Action Week for Education from Sunday
Kathmandu, April 23: The Global Action Week For Education-2016 is kicking off throughout the country from Sunday. The theme of the weeklong campaign this year is – Fund the Future: Education Rights Now.
Rallies would be organised at Bhadrakali in the capital and different places outside Kathmandu at 3 pm on Sunday, heralding the start of the Global Action Week.This information was shared at a news conference the National Campaign for Education-Nepal (NCE Nepal) organised here on Friday.
The objective of the Global Action Week is to draw the attention of the bodies concerned for the implementation of the fundamental right of education and increasing the funds for education. Global Action Week started to be celebrated in Nepal since 2003.
NCE Nepal president Raj Kumar Gandharva said the Campaign is advocating for equal, equitable and quality education rights for all children and the need for investing at least 20 per cent of the total national budget and six per cent of the country’s GDP in education.
Meanwhile, the participants of a programme on education for differently-able here on Friday called on the State to implement effective programme for bringing 3.4 per cent of students with disabilities to school from home and retaining them in schools.
The programme was jointly organised by Plan International, Australian Aid and National Federation of the Disabled Nepal.
The speakers laid emphasis on training teachers on special needs education and having separate examination and assessment system for students with disabilities.
