President, PM extend May Day wishes

Kathmandu, May 1: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has wished for peace, happiness and prosperity to all Nepali sisters and brothers at home and abroad on the occasion of the International Workers’ Day -2016.

In a message of best wishes today, the President has wished for the guarantee of workers’ rights. “May this occasion inspire the entire Nepali working community to fully exercise their rights for a meaningful cause”, the President said in the message.

Similarly, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has congratulated all Nepali sisters and brothers residing in and outside the country on the same occasion. In the May Day message today, the Prime Minister expressed his hope that this day would inspire the authorities concerned to ensure the rights of Nepali workers.

The May Day 2016 has a special importance for the Nepali people as we are going through special situation in the aftermath of last year’s earthquake and the promulgation of the new constitution through the people’s elected Constituent Assembly.

And now, in the post-earthquake reconstruction phase the new constitution should be of focus of the May Day besides the rights for eight-hour work, eight-hour entertainment and eight hour-rest, the Prime Minister said. Rainy season is just ahead and people left homeless by the earthquake need to be provided shelter before its arrival, the Prime Minister stressed calling upon the entire Nepali community to join hands in the post-quake reconstruction and nation-building campaign.

But the development of labour force is essential for the economic development which is only possible through the enforcement of the constitution. Not class struggle but a struggle for production is the prime need of the country to ensure positive change. RSS
