Budget to be media friendly: Minister Rai



Kathmandu, May 17: Minister for Information and Communications Sherdhan Rai said that the upcoming budget would be media friendly.

While inaugurating the First National Assembly of the Federation of Nepalese Indigenous Journalists (FONIJ) here today, Minister Rai said that the upcoming budget has incorporated various issues of the media sector.

He informed that the Ministry was drafting the new media policy to regulate and manage the media sector.

Minister Rai added the decision was made for the implementation of the Minimum Wages Fixation, accident insurance to working journalists, among others.

Similarly, he urged the media to disseminate news about the constitution ensuring the inclusive and proportional representation and rights of all.

Press Council chair Borna Bahadur Karki opined for making the national sovereignty and social harmony sound and for the same professional journalism was essential.

Similarly, Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) general secretary Ujir Magar said that the FNJ was attempting to address the voices of identity and issues of working journalists.

On the occasion, different journalists’ unions and organizations representatives had addressed the programmes. The federation has 1,700 members across the country.

The national assembly participated by the delegates from 46 districts across the country will chalk out the future work plan of the Federation besides amending its statute. FONIJ president Danda Gurung had chaired the programme. RSS (Photo available)
