Information Minister commits to work for welfare of journalists



Trishuli (Nuwakot), Aug 17: Minister for Information and Communications Surendra Kumar Karki today said he would do his best for the welfare of working journalists.

Inaugurating the first unity conference of the Nuwakot branch of the Press Centre Nepal, the Minister expressed commitment to work for the welfare of journalists. “In return, you (journalists) should also take responsibility,” he said.
He also called for increasing the placement of positive news reports in media outlets in order to encourage positivity and optimism among the people.  The Minister said media houses would be given a status of industry.

Also on the occasion, participants like CPN (Maoist Centre) leader Hit Bahadur Tamang, former lawmaker Bimala Subedi, former General Secretary of the Federation of Nepali Journalists Om Sharma, Chief District Officer Bishnu Prasad Pokharel and Local Development Officer Keshar Bahadur Pandit acknowledged the ‘leading’ role of media for the change and development of the society.
