Barca fears they could lose Messi to Man City
BARCELONA, April 30: Barcelona fears Lionel Messi is open to joining Manchester City, according to sensational reports in Spain.
Lionel Messi is again spearheading Barcelona’s bid to win silverware this season.
The Argentina international has scored the most goals in Europe with 48 across all competitions.
However, despite his brilliant form, the 29-year-old’s future at the Nou Camp is uncertain.
Messi’s contract expires next summer and, as of yet, is yet to sign an extension.
And Spanish outlet Don Balon claims the forward could be open to a shock move to Manchester City.
Express Sport understands Messi is City’s top transfer target for the summer.
Barcelona are said to be fearful that Messi is keen on a reunion with Pep Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium.
Guardiola managed him for four years between the years 2008 and 2012, winning three La Liga titles and the Champions League twice.
City are reportedly willing to offer Barcelona a fee of £168million to land their man.
And they are also prepared to pay Messi wages of £33m a year.
