44,000 file nominations for first phase of local-level elections

KATHMANDU, May 3: The Election Commission has said that around 44,000 people have filed nominations for various posts in the first phase of local-level elections scheduled for May 14. The filing of nominations took place on Tuesday.

First phase of elections are taking place in the proposed provinces no. 3, 4 and 6 on May 14, Sunday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. In the candidacy filed yesterday, 1,846 are competing for the post of Mayor and Chair of municipality and rural municipality, 1,367 for the post of deputy mayor and Vice-chair and 10,024 for the post of ward chairperson.

However, the exact details of the candidacy are yet to arrive at the commission due to some technical difficulties that surfaced in some remote districts, the EC said. RSS
