No relevancy to constitution amendment: UML leader Pokhrel

Ishwor Pokhrel

POKHARA, JUNE 29: CPN (UML) General Secretary Ishwor Pokhrel today reiterated that the UML would never assist in amending the constitution that has no ‘relevance’.

Speaking at a press conference organized by Press Chautari Nepal Kaski, he said the UML was firm against an amendment to some provisions related to the increment of the number of local levels in Province 2 and naturalized citizenship and language.

He however said his party was ready to hold a discussion with the disgruntled Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal for a ‘relevant’ amendment to the constitution, saying the constitution is a progressive consensus document.

Stating that although the ruling party had tried to postpone the local level elections under various pretexts, he said, the second round concluded peacefully and thanked all the voters.

He also drew the attention of the government to hold all three levels of elections—local, provincial and federal—in time, arguing that the existing Parliament would dissolve itself and the constitution could not be implemented fully in case of the failure to organize all levels of the polls.RSS
