Sri Lankan State Minister for Foreign Affairs calls on DPM Mahara

KATHMANDU, Aug 12: Visiting Sri Lankan State Minister for Foreign Affairs Vasantha Senanayake paid a courtesy call on Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Krishna Bahadur Mahara on Saturday.

During the meeting held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Singha Durbar, the two discussed on wide range of matters of mutual interest.

On the occasion, DPM Mahara termed Lumbini, the birth place of Lord Buddha, as a bridge between Nepal and Sri Lanka and said that the cultural ties between these two countries were strong enough due to the Buddhism.

Stating that the Lumbini be further developed, DPM Mahara expressed his confidence towards further collaboration between Nepal and Sri Lanka for the promotion of tourism between Nepal and Sri Lanka.

Mahara said, “Places as Ramgram and Tilaurakot lying in the Lumbini areas are religiously significant for both the countries.”

Pledging to give continuation to the bilateral meetings between Nepal and Sri Lanka to further boost ties, Mahara spoke of the need to further activate the concerned mechanism between the two countries for the same.

Visiting Sri Lankan State Minister for Foreign Affairs Senanayake underlined the need to take initiative to enhance connectivity between the two countries laying greater focus on Lumbini.

Echoing with DPM Mahara, he admitted that the regular interactions between the officials from the both countries were a must to further expand the Nepal-Sri Lanka ties.

Present at the meeting were Joint-Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Bhrigu Dhungana and Sri Lanka Ambassador to Nepal WS Pereira, according to the DPM Mahara’s Media and Public Relations Coordinator Hari Lamichhane. RSS
