Voting begins in Province 2

KATHMANDU, September 18: Voting for the third round of local level elections has begun in eight districts of Province 2. The voting began at 7 am in the morning and will continue until 5 pm in the evening.

The Election Commission is conducting the final round of the local election in 136 local units. Monday’s election will elect 6,627 local representatives. A total of 37, 236 contestants are vying for the post of chiefs and members of the local units and ward committees, according to the EC. Of the total contestants, 14, 375 candidates are women.

A total of 26, 64, 950 registered voters are participating in the polls today. Of the total allocated seats, eight have already been elected unanimously, according to the EC officials.

According to the EC, more than 60,000 security personnel have been deployed. 31,500 polling officers and poll observers have deployed at the polling centers.
