KATHMANDU, Oct 9: Kamal Thapa-led Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has decided to support the Sher Bahadur Deuba-led government.

A central work execution committee meeting of the RPP on Monday took the decision after most of the leaders suggested for the same to create environment of election, leader Dilnath Giri told Reporters’ Club Nepal.

Party chairman Kamal Thapa informed the meeting about the proposal of the Nepali Congress to participate in the government and the alliance.

RPP has already decided to join the Deuba-led government and Deuba has also offered RPP Chair Kamal Thapa Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister.

Since the ruling coalition partner CPN (Maoist Center) announced to form electoral alliance with the main opposition CPN-UML last week, Deuba has been considering cabinet reshuffle sacking Maoist ministers once he secures comfortable majority votes.

Deuba is likely to sack Maoist minister before inducting RPP leaders into the cabinet.

If Maoist withdraws support, the incumbent government is at risk of losing majority support. RPP has claimed that the party decided to support the government to ensure the upcoming provincial and federal elections scheduled for November 26 and December 7.

The meeting also decided to participate in upcoming elections after joining the Broader Democratic Alliance. Party Spokesperson Bhuwan Pathak said that different committees would be formed for election mobilization.
