Maoist Center demands Dhungel’s release
KATHMANDU, Oct 31: The CPN (Maoist Center) has demanded the release of its leader and former lawmaker Balkrishna Dhungel who was arrested by the Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police Tuesday morning from the Satdobato area, following the Supreme Court order.
Dhungel is convicted on the murder of one Ujjan Kumar Shrestha in Okhaldhunga during the conflict in 1998.
Party spokesperson Pampha Bhusal condemned the arrest saying that Dhungel’s arrest was against the comprehensive peace accord.”As per the spirit of the peace agreement, the cases dating back to the period of armed conflict in the country are to be settled through the Truth and Reconciliation Commission,” she said, demanding his immediate release.
Talking to media persons following the arrest of Dhungel, the party spokesperson expressed doubt over the police move, citing it might be an attempt to foil the elections.
Meanwhile, Maoist Center’s youth wing, Young Communist League (YCL) condemning the arrest of leader Dhungel and demanded his immediate release. The YCL has also warned of filing cases against the leaders of other political parties in connection to the cases of the armed conflict.
