Security bodies guarantee free, fair and peaceful election

POKHARA, Nov 10: The Ministry of Home Affairs organized a seminar on election security here on Friday.

One hundred and sixty persons including the Chief District Officers and the district chiefs of the Nepal Army, Nepal Police, the Armed Police Force and the National Investigation Department from all the districts in Province 4 and Province 5 attended the seminar.

In the seminar, the chiefs of the security bodies gave assurances that both the elections to the House of Representatives and the State Assemblies to be held in two phases would be free, fair and peaceful as the security situation in the districts of the provinces was sound.

Inaugurating the seminar, election commissioner Ishwari Prasad Poudel said the Election Commission has taken the mentality of the political parties that only they and their respective candidates should win the election by any means as a security threat in the election.

He said the role of the security personnel deputed on election duty would be of paramount importance in making the elections free, impartial and peaceful by preventing any possible unhealthy competition and skirmishes among the cadres and supporters of the political parties in course of the campaigning.

Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Mohan Krishna Sapkota said although the security situation in the country is in normal, the security personnel should always be in a ‘ready position’ keeping in mind the anti-election activities that might take place at the time of the election.

Joint Secretary at the Ministry, Narayan Prasad Sharma Dawadi said the security forces have a significant role for the success of the election. RSS
