EC to publish voters list for National Assembly election today
KATHMANDU, Jan 21: The Election Commission is preparing to publish the list of voters for the National Assembly election today. The elections are scheduled for February 7.
Once the Province Assembly members of all seven provinces take oath of office and secrecy, the EC will publish the list, according to EC Spokesperson Nawaraj Dhakal.
According to article 86, 2(A) of the constitution, fifty six elected members consisting of at least three women, one Dalit and one from persons with disabilities or minorities, from each state by an electoral college composed of members of the Province Assembly, chairpersons and deputy chairpersons of the village bodies, and mayors and deputy-mayors of the municipalities, with different weightage of the vote by the members of the Province Assembly, chairpersons and vice-chairperson the village bodies, and mayors and deputy-mayors of the municipalities as provided for in the federal law.
550 province members and 1506 chairpersons and vice-chairpersons of local levels will vote to elect 56 National Assembly members.
The remaining three members consisting of at least one woman member will be nominated by the President.
