Indian PM’s state visit productive: PM Oli

KATHMANDU, May 13: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that the recent two-day State visit by Indian counterpart Narendra Modi was fruitful in taking the bilateral relations to a new height.

Informing a meeting of the National Assembly, upper house of the Federal Parliament, of the Indian Prime Minister’s visit, Prime Minister Oli said the visit was meaningful in taking the bilateral ties ahead on the basis of mutual interests and equality.

PM Oli said Indian PM Modi during his telephone conservation with him following his departure termed his visit successful.

” I am confident that the visit would yield good results, we have entered a new era, onwards we all have to move towards the course of stability, development and prosperity by assimilating international policies and responsibilities, bearing in mind bilateral and multilateral relations,” Prime Minister Oli said quoting his Indian counterpart.

The Indian Prime Minister stated that the visit had built up an atmosphere for making correction in misunderstandings and differences seen between two countries in the past.

Prime Minister Oli said the positive achievement from the Indian PM Modi’s visit is that both parties agreed on having independence in taking self decision on internal affairs without affecting sovereignty and independence of Nepal.

Talks at agriculture ministerial level would be held soon while both countries will prioritize cooperation and development in agriculture on the basis of need, he said, adding that an expert group will also be formed in this regard.

Saying Kathmandu-Raxaul rail that is linked with Nepal’s prosperity would be constructed within the next five years, he said a study in this regard would be conducted soon after creating a joint taskforce.

According to Prime Minister Oli, an agreement has been reached to adopt an equal policy regarding the promotion of bilateral trade, by clearing off misunderstandings in the energy trade. The implementation of the Pancheshwor Multipurpose Project would be accelerated by preparing the detailed project report, he added. Important discussions on development and expansion of road connectivity were also held during the visit.
