Dozen arrested from Maitighar Mandala (Photo features)

KATHMANDU, July 5: The police have arrested human rights activists and student leaders for defying the government’s decision to prohibit protest at Maitighar Mandala.

The police have arrested Charan Prasain, Indra Prasad Aryal, Surendra Bhandari, Mohan Gyawali, Uddhab Pyakurel, Lokendra Pokharel, M.M. Acharya, Lokraj Awasthi, Bishwa Duwal, Jayaram Dahal, Sagar Adhikary, Loktantra Pokhrel from Maitighar Mandala.

They were at Maitighar Mandala to press the government to address the demands of Gangamaya and Govinda KC without delay.

They criticized the government for showing no concern to Ganga Maya Adhikari and Dr Govinda KC, both on indefinite hunger strike.

It may be noted that Maitighar Mandala and Shanti Batika, which are popular places for protests and demonstrations, have been designated as prohibited zones by the government, with effect fom coming July 17.
