Minister Adhikari directs for effective implementation of projects
Kathmandu, Dec 21 : Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Rabindra Adhikari, has directed the various agencies under the Ministry for effective implementation of the projects and programmes.
At a meeting of Ministry-level Development Problem Resolution Committee and first quarterly progress review meeting of the fiscal year 2017/18, held at Singha Durbar today, Minister Adhikari urged the chiefs of the bodies concerned to move ahead in a responsible manner, saying fruitful result could not be achieved until the development of effective monitoring system by determining time limit.
Expressing dissatisfaction over non-satisfactory work progress of the subordinate bodies, he said although work progress of Bhairahawa International Airport, Pashupati Area Development Trust and Lumbini Development Trust, out of five national pride projects, is satisfactory, it should be made more effective.
On a different note, Minister Adhikari said the Ministry has forwarded activities with a target to make 10 per cent contribution of tourism sector in gross domestic product by the end of 2020. He further said that there would be no problem to make Visit Nepal 2020 a success by bringing in two million tourists.
Similarly, member of National Planning Commission, Dr Ram Kumar Phunyal, said although the number of tourists visiting Nepal was satisfactory in recent period, it was very challenging to bring in two million tourists in two years.
He added programme of tourism infrastructure and promotion should be made effective for the same. Joint-Secretary at the Tourism Ministry, Nita Pokharel, presented a budget of the current fiscal year of the subordinate bodies under the Ministry, programme and progress details of the project.
On the occasion, Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal, Sanjeev Gautam, Director General of the Department of Tourism, Danduraj Ghimire, Chairperson of Nepal Airlines Corporation, Madan Kharel, Chief Executive Officer of the Nepal Tourism Board, Deepak Raj Joshi, Member Secretary of Pashupati Area Development Trust, Pradeep Dhakal, Executive Director of the Lumbini Development Trust, Saroj Bhattarai, Director General of the Department of Archeology, Damodar Gautam and chiefs of other different bodies presented work progress details of their respective agencies.
