Trishuli bus plunge: Death toll reaches eight (update)

KATHMANDU, May 19: The death toll in Trishuli bus plunge has climbed to eight.

Earlier, six persons were reported dead. But the local authorities working in rescue have recovered two more bodies from the accident site.

The accident occurred when a passenger bus Na 7 Kha 4387 en route to Kathmandu from Kakarvhitta of Jhapa skidded of the Prithvi Highway at Banchhetar, ward no 6 of Gajuri rural municipality in Dhading district and plunged into the Trishuli River at around 6:00 am on Sunday morning. At least 29 passengers were injured in the accident.

Of the total deceased, four bodies have been identified so far.  They are Sita Thapaliya,35, of Chandragiri municipality; Bishal Giri, 20, of Kanyam, Ilam and 51-year-old Raj Kumar Subedi of Thankot, Kathmandu and Rajan Acharya,43.

Locals joined by Nepal Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force have been carrying out rescue work since morning. The reason behind the accident is not yet known.
