The expansion of Hamad International airport to cater 60 million annual passengers

DOHA: Hamad International airport (HIA) has enormous plans for expansion. The project features a spectacular 10,000 sq km indoor tropical garden in a central concourse as well as a 268 sqm water feature which will be its core beautified strengths.

The construction of the projects will be done in phases and it will commence by early 2020.

The airport will have all the necessary logistics and salient features for the comfort of world-class passengers coming right in time for the World Cup and 2022 and beyond.

Talking to the media regarding the project the Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker said “the expansion of Hamad International Airport is a vital part of the future success of the Qatar Airways Group, and of course of the country’s preparations to host the 2022 World cup and beyond.

It is also a strong sign that Qatar”s economy is robust and acts as a further economic stimulus, providing excellent opportunities for local and international contractors.

Similarly, Engineer Badr Mohammed Al Meer, Chief Operating Officer at HIA said “Since we started our operations in 2014, it has been our goal to provide our passengers with unique travel experience, keeping their needs as our top priority.

The expansion will continue to redefine the airport experience, cementing HIA’S reputation as a destination gateway and critical international hub”.

HIA was ranked as the fourth-best airport in the world and the best airport in the Middle East at the SKYTRAX World Airport Awards 2019 and is in the 6th year of its operations. It has served over 187 million passengers at its state-of-the-art terminal since opening in 2014.
