Mechi-Mahakali Electrified Railway Line.

KATHMANDU, Jan 5: Department of Railways has reached an agreement with the consultant Usin-Brasil-CCRRC-FBC JV to develop a detailed project report (DPR) of the Nijgadh-Hetauda-Bharatpur section of the Mechi-Mahakali Electrified Railway Line.

As per the agreement, the company will complete the DPR in 15 months, said Director General of the Railway Department Balram Mishra.

Earlier, the Department had reopened a global tender in October 2018 for the detailed engineering survey and design and preparation of DPR of the project connecting Pathlaiya, Hetauda and Bharatpur. 13 consultants had applied for the project.

The evaluation committee of the department had shortlisted six consultants initially. The shortlisted consultants were then asked to produce financial and technological proposals on January 3 last year.

The 946 kilometers Mechi–Mahakali railway line starts from Mahakali in Kanchanpur district in western Nepal and terminates at Mechi in Jhapa district in eastern Nepal. The electrified railway line has been divided into nine sections.

Of them, the DPR of the other eight sections has already been made except the five-kilometer section.
