Week-long NCP central committee meeting begins
KATHMANDU, Jan 29: A central committee meeting of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has begun at the Rastriya Shabha Griha on Wednesday.
Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli inaugurated the week-long meeting, which will run till February 5.
This is the second central committee meeting of the NCP since the unification between former CPN-UML and CPN-Maoist Center in May 2018.
A jumbo committee consisting of 441 central members, including former Deputy Speaker Shiva Maya Tumbahamphe, are attending the meeting, who will moot over a political report to be presented by party executive chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ later in the afternoon.
A meeting of the NCP Secretariat held on Tuesday had nominated Tumbahamphe to the central committee. She had resigned from the position at the party request to pave way for the NCP to nominate its Speaker.
The meeting is also expected to hit a concrete decision on the Millennium Challenge Corporation’s Nepal Compact, as the party remains sharply divided over whether to or not to endorse the US grant agreement through the parliament.
