SUNSARI, Dec 13: Nepali Congress candidate Bijaya Kumar Gachhadar has secured victory in the House of Representatives election from Sunsari-3.

He defeated CPN-UML candidate Bhagawati Chaudhary by 321 votes. Gachhadar received 38,972 votes while Chaudhary obtained 38,651 votes. It has been sixth time Gachhadar has been elected to the parliament.

With this result, vote counting under the First-past-the-post category has concluded.

BIRATNAGAR, Oct 13: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Federal Affairs and Local Development Bijaya Kumar Gachhadar said that there was possibility of merger between Nepal Democratic Forum and Nepali Congress before the upcoming elections.

Talking to journalists at Biratnagar Airport on Thursday evening, he said that the leaders of two parties would hold intensive discussion and reach to a conclusion to that end which would result in the formation of the broader democratic alliance. He further said other fringe parties would also be the part of the alliance.

DPM Gachhadar urged all parties and stakeholders to remain confident on the timely conduction of elections to the House of Representatives and State Assemblies in the stipulated time.

He told media that the Prime Minister was preparing to induct Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) to the government as per the agreement. RSS

KATHMANDU, Oct 9: Bijaya Kumar Gachhadar-led Nepal Loktantrik Forum had decided to unify with the Nepali Congress.

The two parties will announce unification later in the afternoon, confirmed Baluwatar sources.

Gachchhadar had won elections in 1991, 1994 and 1999 representing the NC. In 2008, NC had formally expelled Gachhadar from the party, by that time he had already joined Madhesi People’s Rights Forum led by Upendra Yadav.

He also won the 2008 Constitution Assembly Election. But in 2009, he split from Upendra Yadav’s party and formed his own party Nepal Loktantrik Forum (Democratic). Gachhadar won the 2013 Constitution Assembly Election from Sunsari Constituency 3 representing Loktantrik.
