KATHMANDU, March 9: Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli has said the incumbent government is focused on controlling corruption.

“I will not indulge in such illegal activity nor do I endure it. I will make the country free from corruption in my tenure as Prime Minister,” he said Friday while inaugurating a medical building for Bir Hospital.

The journey to economic prosperity has started, he said while heavily coming down on failure to complete a project on time and compromising quality construction work.

“I have heard that a bridge is inaugurated 11 times. Action will be taken against failure to complete a project on time. Monitoring will be carried out against monitoring,” he said.

He also urged doctors and health workers to be serious about their work, referring to various reports of doctors’ “negligence” in treating patients, which in some cases leads to death, insisting on the need of development and expansion of technical education.

The nine-storey surgical building will have well-equipped 15 operating theaters, post operative wards, and a 40-bed surgical intensive care unit. The project that costs estimated Rs 3.85 billion funded by the government is targeted to be complete by 2077 B.S.

Also on the occasion, Vice Chancellor of the National Institution of General Medical Sciences Prof Dr Ganesh Man Gurung informed that the hospital will increase to 1,500 beds from present 450.

The master plan for the project has come into effect, he said, adding that under the plan, construction of a 100-bed medical building has also started. The project is funded by the Japanese government. RSS

KATHMANDU, July 27: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has insisted on creating an atmosphere so that the entire people could have an easy access to treatment from all hospitals across the country.

Inaugurating the 128th anniversary celebration of the country’s oldest hospital, the Bir Hospital, on Thursday, the Prime Minister underlined the need of guaranteeing quality healthcare services within the country to discourage people to visit India or other third countries for treatment.

He was of the view that the hospital remaining as the country’s leading health facility should provide service as per its identity.

“The contribution of the Bir Hospital to health sector since its establishment is appreciable; it is producing human resources to serve the people of far-flung settlements and I am hopeful that it will be able to establish the fact that quality health services are available at home,” he said.

Prime Minister pledged all necessary support including the sufficient budget to develop the hospital into a ‘hub of specialists’.

Also speaking on the occasion, Health Minister Girirajmani Pokhrel sought the hospital role in implementing the civic health rights guaranteed by the constitution.

Likewise, former Health Minister Gagan Kumar Thapa said the delivery of better services was expected from the hospital as it had competent human resources.

Hospital director Prof Dr Bhupendra Basnet said the hospital carrying a historic identity was providing its services to the people from different walks of life including to the poor, helpless and VIPs.

The hospital that had started its service on the 12th Saun, 1947 BS from 15 beds has now 460 beds.

The process of constructing a new surgical ward on 17 ropani of land has been initiated by dismantling a staff quarter and a building for nursing campus, as shared by him on the occasion. RSS

KATHMANDU, May 29: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Krishna Bahadur Mahara announced to upgrade the Bir Hospital to the high-tech international-level hospital.

Similarly, while presenting the budget, he said the government would complete the reconstruction of the earthquake hit health institutions within two years.

The government has estimated a cost of total Rs 17 billion to build badly-hit 2,000 health institutions and procure equipment.

Unveiling the budget for the fiscal year 2017/018 in the Legislature-Parliament on Monday, Minister Mahara pledged to handover the responsibility to the local levels to operate the health institutions.

The budget has announced to manage the salaries of the health institutions from the local levels and while the maternal service, immunization, golden 1000 days, family health, tuberculosis, malaria control and Ayurved health services would also be handed over to the local level.

The health programmes handed over to the local level would be monitored and supervised from the District Public Health Offices, while the Health Insurance Programme expanded in all districts, according to the Finance Minister.
Likewise, the budget has announced to establish the Ayurvedic University and the Drug Management Act would be revised to compulsorily operate the pharmacy services in all hospitals. RSS
