BIRATNAGAR, May 14: Nepali Congress leader Dr Shekhar Koirala has said that a new leadership in the party was must to make the party strong.

Speaking at a press conference organized by the Nepal Press Union, Morang chapter in Biratnagar on Monday, Koirala said that the incumbent leadership was the main reason behind the NC’s defeat in the elections.

Saying the general convention of the party should be called as soon as possible even after amending the party’s statute, he said gathering power by party president against party statue and consensus was like inviting the totalitarianism.

The NC leader said the Nepal visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was significant achievement for the country and stressed the positive impacts on tourism sector due to Indian PM Modi’s visit should be utilized in a proper way. RSS

‘OLI DOING MISTAKE ASSIGNING SWEEPING POWERS TO PMO’

KATHMANDU,  April 29: Nepali Congress (NC) leader Dr Shekhar Koirala has said that party president Sher Bahadur Dueba should step down from party leadership arguing that the party–which bore an unexpected loss in the November 26 and December 7 House of Representatives and Province Assembly election–can be revived with the help of new leadership.

He further said that it was the irresponsibility of party president Deuba not to even accept that the party loss the elections due to leadership weakness.

“Deuba neither takes the responsibility of party’s election loss nor he is ready to hand over the party leadership—which is not acceptable to us,” Koirala vented ire while taking to Rishi Dhamala at a program ‘Dhamala ko Hamala’ on Sunday.

“Deuba must step down,” he reiterated adding, “If he hands over the leadership role to new generation, Nepali Congress can be totally revived within five years.”

Nepali Congress, which was the largest party before polls, was able to secure only 23 seats under the first-past-the-post category. CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Center) who dramatically announced alliance on the eve of the elections, swept the elections winning 116 seats (UML 80 and Maoist Center 36).

On a different note, Dr Koirala accused Prime Minister K P Sharma of trying to bring totalitarianism in the country and added that the prime minister would never success in his mission.

“The government’s activities do not resemble democratic character. It is true that prime minister becomes the most powerful in a parliamentary system, but the way Prime Minister Oli is assigning sweeping powers to his office, is totally wrong,” he said.

“He is a big mistake of the prime minister to bring the National Investigation Department under the purview of the Office of Prime Minister,” he added.

The government, in the first week of March, had brought the major departments– National Investigation Department, the Department of Revenue Investigation and the Department of Money Laundering Investigation, which were under various ministries earlier, under the PMO.

“Prime Minister Oli’s moves are pointing toward efforts of bring communism in the country,” he furthered.

BIRATNAGAR, Jan 3: Nepali Congress central committee member Dr Shekhar Koirala on Wednesday said that his party will cooperate if the left alliance moves ahead on the basis of norms and values of the democratic system.

Speaking at a news conference organized by the Nepal Press Union, Morang at the Koirala residence, Koirala said that NC will remain in opposition and play a responsible role in the parliament as the people have given mandate for the same.

Stating that the constitution itself is not complete, he said, “The constitution should not have been made in this way in order to make delay in formation of government even after completion of the election.”

Leader Koirala said that Nepal should adopt a balanced foreign policy in dealing with both neighboring countries as well as other European countries, otherwise the country might face problem.

He further said that there was necessity to hold the party’s general assembly by making some amendment on party’s statute after the central committee meeting.

BIRATNAGAR, Dec 9: The left alliance won two parliamentary seats in Morang which the total six constituencies. CPN-UML’s Lal Babu Pandit was elected in Morang constituency 6 by defeating Nepali Congress’s Dr Shekhar Koirala with a slight margin of vote.

Pandit received 33,941 votes against 33,266 votes garnered by Dr Koirala.

Bhanu Bhakta Dhakal

Likewise, UML’s Bhanu Bhakta Dhakal won a parliamentary seat in Morang 3 with 42,413 votes. His closest contender NC’s Sunil Sharma secured 40,506 votes.

Leader Koirala who is also in the race for the House of Representatives election from Morang-6 said this while addressing party ward-level corner meetings in Biratnagar on Wednesday.

On the occasions, he took the time to speak of the need of NC leadership for the recognition and respect of identity of all castes and communities and to ensure their access and representation to every state organ.

Biratnagar Metropolitan City mayor Bhim Parajuli urged voters to make the NC victorious to see Biratnagar as the province capital (Province 1).

PARSA, Sept 1: Nepali Congress central committee member Dr Shekhar Koirala has expressed unhappiness over what he called the violation of the election code of conduct by the political parties during the election campaigning for the third phase local level election in province-2.

He said it is regrettable that the leaders and the candidates themselves of some political parties were breaching the election code of conduct that was agreed to by the parties.

Leader Koirala expressed his displeasure while speaking to journalists in course of a door-to-door visit program organized by the Nepali Congress district working committee at Chhapkaiya of Birgunj Metropolitan City on Friday.

He said the voters will punish the election code violators through their valuable ballots, stressing that the code should be fully followed for the larger interest of the parties themselves.

The NC leader also urged the Election Commission to take action against the election code violators.

PAANCHTHAR, June 20: Nepali Congress leader Dr Shekhar Koirala claimed that his party will win the next round of the local level elections.

Speaking to journalists this morning at Phidim of Paanchthar, Koirala said there has not been any coordination made through instructions handed out from the party’s centre as had been the case in the first round of local polls and that the candidates were selected on basis of merit, capability and contribution to the party.

He also slammed CPN (UML) Chairman KP Sharma Oli of keeping the people in illusion by feigning to be a nationalist

Koirala was of the opinion that it was wrong to destroy the country by spreading a notion of separate nationalism in the Himalayan and hilly regions and exaggerated nationalism in Madhes. RSS
