MUMBAI: ‘Kahaani’ has sprung yet another surprise. And this time the twist was scripted by the CMD of PEN India Pvt Ltd and the co producer of the film, Jayantilal Gada. He has ousted Sujoy Ghosh and signed Kundan Shah of the 1983 cult classic ‘Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro’, to helm the second part of the film, announced with much fanfare a few months back.

The decision comes two weeks after Ghosh sent a letter to Gada allegedly asking for a whopping Rs 35 crore for the sequel to the 2012 thriller. Not only that, the director had also demanded that music and satellite rights rest with his company boundscript and there be no co-signatory from Pen India on board.

In reply, PEN India had asked Ghosh to show the full script of Kahaani 2 along with a note from Vidya Balan confirming being a part of the film. About the recent development, a source close to Gada said, “Sujoy never sent any reply to Gada’s mail and after contemplating for a while, PEN CMD decided to go ahead with the project and replace Ghosh with Shah.”

Confirming the development, Gada said, “Movies are made with teamwork and not greed.” Elaborating on the project, Shah said, “I am happy to direct the second edition of the franchise. However, this is not a sequel. The story is entirely different than that of Sujoy’s film. I had a woman-oriented script, which I took to Gada. He loved it and decided to make Kahaani 2 with it. I plan to put it on floors sometime next year. ”

When contacted Ghosh, he burst out laughing and said, “Anybody can make a woman-oriented film—be it Kundan Shah or Jayantilal Gada himself. Let them do what they want. As far as the story of Vidya Bagchi is concerned, nobody can take that story forward except me. At this point I am not sure when I will start on it, or if I will work on it at all. But it is only me, who has the right to work on that story. “

Ranveer Singh says that after tasting success early in his career there have been moments when stardom got to him, but the actor credits his family for keeping him grounded.

Ranveer started his acting career with 2010 hit”Band Baaja Baaraat” and then went on to do “Ladies vs Ricky Bahl”. The 28-year-old actor’s recent release ‘Lootera’ has also been appreciated.

The actor’s father scolds him whenever he tends to act “bratty”.

“I have a very close knit nuclear family who are very frank and blunt with me, especially my father. I will admit, there have been occasions where my father has scolded me saying, ‘What are you doing? Why are you behaving like this? you are getting really bratty!’. He keeps me in check.

“And then I have these two best buddies since the age of 13-14. They are just what real friends do, keep criticising my work and never let me fly high. They make me feel like just another guy. When you have suchclose people you can never lose your mind,” Ranveer told in an interview.

The actor says he does not care about stardom and plans to stick around in the industry for a very long time.

“What I hope for myself in terms of the career I want and the sort of contributions I want to make to the films, stardom doesn’t really matter then. I know where I have to reach so I am not looking at what is happening around me but just concentrating on work,” he said.

Ranveer insists he wants to be part of significant cinema just like Aamir Khan.

“I want to be part of significant cinema. Like Aamir Khan, I think he has been part of the most defining films of Indian cinema. That is my goal.”

Ranveer thinks ‘Lootera’ has proved to be a game-changer for him and he looks forward to working with the “cream crop” of directors from here on.

“The kind of response the industry has had to my film is big. I hope to have an opportunity to work with the best directors. I am already working with best. ‘Band Baja Baaraat’ was a very strong start… On that basis I got ‘Ram Leela’ and ‘Gunday’. Now after ‘Lootera’ I hope to continue working with the cream crop of directors.”

MUMBAI: Amidst all the noise that has been going around, the sweetest is the one made by our new-born baby, AbRam.

He was born prematurely by several months but has finally come home. Gauri and our whole family have been dealing with his health issues for a long time now.

As a family our silence on this subject has been because of the personal nature of emotional strife that we have been going through due to his health. We wish to make a special mention and thank Dr. Jatin Shah for his expertise and contribution. We also wish to thank all the other doctors, nurses and medical staff who have made his life possible. As trying were the times, we never lost hope that life always brings with it.

Just to put the record straight there was no sex determination for our child. The baby was born much before the speculations of ‘sex determination’ and other ‘issues’ pertaining to the same were being raised in the media by some organisations.

Suffice to say his coming home puts to rest completely false and at times insensitive claims of sex determination and alleged illegalities.

We also apologise to all those other doctors and hospitals who had to face unwanted scrutiny and questioning by some parties.

Our son is a surrogate baby and the entire process is bound by strict confidentiality. We would appeal to all, to allow us to cherish this private moment as a family.

It seems unfortunate that I have to explain/clarify so many aspects for our new-born baby. Wish it were just a simple message of happiness on behalf of the family.

They say a baby is God’s opinion that the world should go on. Post this statement, I hope we all move on too. Thank you.

I change my watch three times a day: Saif Ali Khan https://nepalireporter.com/2013/07/13868 https://nepalireporter.com/2013/07/13868#respond Thu, 04 Jul 2013 10:04:47 +0000 http://nepalireporter.com/?p=13868 NEW DELHI: Saif Ali Khan always had a fetish for watches and the actor believes his Bollywood career has fanned his obsession to own rare timepieces. NEW DELHI: Saif Ali Khan always had a fetish for watches and the actor believes his Bollywood career has fanned his obsession to own rare timepieces.

Saif, whose first watch was given to him by his cricketer father Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, says he did not have a watch worth talking about before he joined films.

Now, such is Saif’s fixation with watches that for every project he does, he invests in a timepiece that complements the film and suits the character.

“The collection has grown with the films I have done, especially over the past six to ten years. ForParineeta, which was a period film, I bought a Vacheron Constantin Patrimony and a 1962vintage Omega,” Saif told a magazine in an interview.

The actor, who features on the magazine’s anniversary issue cover, has a massive collection of luxury watches.

“They all have their places… Sometimes just sitting at home, I change my watch three times a day. I like to open the box, clean my watches and admire them. I have few, chunky gold ones that go well with long hair, a dark sun tan and white pair of shorts. But usually, I like very simple watches with leather straps,” he says.

Such is his obsession to own an exclusive timepiece that Saif once bought the Breitling Emergency from a dealer, who was wearing it.

Some of Saif’s favourite watches have been gifted to him by Kareena, his wife, who is not a watch enthusiast but has a keen eye for unique pieces.

MUMBAI: Aishwarya Rai Bachchan who has been on a self-imposed sabbatical from films ever since she delivered a baby girl, is all set to be back on the screen. The pretty actress who has been attending film festivals and making a lot of international appearances has finally green lit a few projects.

The actress in recent times has shed all her post-pregnancy flab and has been working out to get back in shape. Sources close to her say that she has been looking at scripts and has finally zeroed down on a couple of them.

Until the producers make an announcement, she isn’t allowed to talk about them though there have been talks about Karan Johar and Sanjay Leela Bhansali having approached her for their next projects.

Over the past few months, the actress has been making quite a few international appearances but her daughter has been constantly travelling with her. She also had her mother for company but right now, Ash seems to be getting ready to get back into the limelight.

Aaradhya is a year old and this is probably the right time for Ash to make her much awaited comeback on sorts on the big screen.

MUMBAI: Actor Ranveer Singh hopes his forthcoming movie Lootera gives the audiences a taste of his versatility.

“When I signed this film, I thought the audience would get to see something different from me. Hopefully, people will get to see that I can act, and that I can offer intensity and depth and a range of emotions on screen,” the 27-year-old said.

He believes this film is different from his past movies. “In Band Baaja Baarat my character was uninhibited, loud and vivacious, and in Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl I just had to look good. It was not necessarily a performance film, but Lootera is,” he added.

Directed by Vikramaditya Motwane, Lootera is a period romance and stars Sonakshi Sinha opposite Ranveer. It hits theatres on Friday.

Ranveer, who is awaiting four releases in the near future, hopes each one will take him a step forward as an actor. “A big year for me is coming up with four releases. Lootera this week, Ram Leela in November, Gunday in February and Kill Dill mid-2014. So it’s a very big year. I am quite aware of it, and I hope I move forward with each release. I think I’ll be quite happy if that happens,” Ranveer said.

Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Ram Leela also stars Deepika Padukone, while Gunday also features Arjun Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra.

Nargis Fakhri talks about men, movies and how she does not believe in the institution of marriage

“I don’t think I’d jeopardise my career by getting into a relationship at this stage,” says Nargis Fakhri when we meet her at a suburban cafe, adding, “Moreover, I don’t find the need. I’m surrounded by a bunch of friends. Boyfriends are troublesome and unnecessary.”

Surprising, considering the Rockstar actress has been more in the news for her various liaisons than her film roles. Her link-up with Uday Chopra has been a big talking point after he tweeted his love for her recently.

Says Nargis dismissively, “Uday’s only teasing. I have known him, but I am most definitely not in love with him. I am here to be the best that I can be, make money, and take off.” Not that she hasn’t been in love but “the guy went to Brazil and got married,” she says.

Career-wise, apart from Madras Cafe and the Shaukeen remake, she is also excited about her special song and dance number in Rajkumar Santoshi’s Phata Poster Nikla Hero. “I want to do that number so when I’m 70, holding a walking stick and wearing fake teeth, I can tell my grandchildren, ‘look kids, that’s your granny gyrating her oomph’.”

Talking about becoming a grandmother, is marriage on the cards? “I don’t believe in the institution of marriage. It’s a challenge to spend all your life with one person. Emotional dependency weakens you,” she quips.

KATHMANDU: Kiran Rao, 39, the second wife of Amir has said he was keenly attracted to Aamir Khan and wanted to have a baby with him. “I am not really maternal but had a great desire to have a child with Aamir,” she said.

Rao is an Indian film producer, screenwriter, and director. Kiran Rao was born into a Brahmin family from Bangalore on November 7, 1973. She was raised in Kolkata where she attended Loreto House and La Martiniere Calcutta.

She said she was attracted to Amir’s sense of humour and his knowledge and the way he looks at things. “We both get affected by a certain kind of politics or intolerance. Aamir is able to get lost in what he is doing, which I am unable to. I am obsessed with Azaad and wonder what I was doing before him. While for the first ten months I did everything for him, I have now slowly extricated myself and have started thinking on what I want to direct next, though I have never been in a hurry,” she shares.

She further says that he likes more one-on-one company and can go hours without talking and she is not driven and had a tendency to procrastinate and was able to do whatever she wanted to do but it is with a little bit of meandering. “Aamir helped me clarify my creative ideas and open up my mind. I am quite lucky to have worked with him in many projects. He has a unique head,” she praised Amir.
