KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress (NC) and its sister organization in the country and abroad are remembering the third death anniversary of party’s former President and Nepal’s all time high Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala by organizing different programs.

The NC is organizing different programs at the central level and the district levels too.

A memorial meeting and seminar is scheduled to be held at the Rastriya Sabha Griha while the district committees are doing different programs on their own.

The former Prime Minister Koirala is mostly remembered for brining the former rebel Maoists in the peace politics and holding the first Constituent Assembly (CA) poll. But, the CA demised without promulgating the new constitution after two years of Koirala’s death.  Koirala had died at the age of 85.

KATHMANDU: Saying that the formation of the Chief Justice-led government would challenge the rule of law and principle of power separations, some Nepali Congress central committee members have started a campaign to stop the formation of the CJ-led government.

However, NC top leaders have already agreed to form the CJ-led government.

NC central committee members including Pradip Giri, Sujata Koirala, Gagan Thapa and others have in public challenged the four-party decision to form the CJ-led government while some NC leaders are accusing the party top brass of failing to offer a political option instead of the CJ-led government.

Some two dozen NC central leaders including Koirala have started campaign against the party leadership saying that formation of the CJ-led government would be against the norms of democracy, independent judiciary and principle of power separations.

They also held discussions with party President Sushil Koirala this morning and urged the party chief to give the government leadership to the sitting CJ only after calling him to resign from the post of CJ.

In response, Koirala assured the leaders to form the CJ-led government by not going against the spirit of democracy and principle of power separations.

The disgruntled leaders are also scheduled to meet party Vice-president Ram Chandra Poudel and senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba.

KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress and CPN (UML) on Tuesday have rejected the UCPN (Maoist)’s proposal to form an election government under the leadership of sitting Chief Justice.

On Monday, major political parties had agreed to form the election government under the leadership of an independent figure, most likely the sitting Chief Justice, to hold the CA elections by May.

The UML took such decision by holding an emergency meeting of the central committee members available in the capital while the NC leaders aired their voices against the CJ-led government at the party meeting today.

The leaders stressed for searching for other option including forming a new government under the leadership of a political figure from within the party. “The NC even should be ready to quit its stance if the parties agree on to form the government under the leadership of the political figure,” the NC leaders told at the meeting.

NC senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba also said that the leaders have been airing their voices against the CJ-led government.

The former prime minister said almost all the constitutional bodies have been vacant due to the Maoists’ design and also holding the CA elections at this situation was almost impossible.

Deuba urged the commoners to join the anti-government protest to topple the current government saying the country was in the path of a failure state due to the current government.

KATHMANDU: After a long gap, Nepal’s President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav and Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai today held discussions regarding the way to end the ongoing political debate. The political and constitutional crises in the country is deepening due to power -centric politics of the major political parties, analysts believe.

The opposition parties are taking to the streets and obstructing the Prime Minister’s visits to the districts while the coalition parties have also denied the oppositions’ demand to quit the government.

During the meeting held at the President’s Office, two two discussed the  ways to end the ongoing political and constitutional crises, it is said.

Briefly talking to media after the discussions with the President, Prime Minister Dr. Bhattarai said discussions were underway to hold the CA elections by May after ending the present deadlock. The  Prime Minister said the only way to end the present crises is to focus on elections, not the government’s resignation.

After the meeting with the Prime Minister, the President also discussed with the top leaders of the major political parties and asked why the consensus was elusive and encouraged the leaders to forge consensus.

Top leaders of the UCPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress and CPN (UML) had reached the President’s Office to meet the head of the state.

After the meeting, the opposition leaders traded charges against the government and ruling parties while the UCPN (Maoist) leaders say that the opposition parties were fearing from the elections.

Talking to media, NC vice-president Ram Chandra Poudel said the President should take a concrete step to end the crisis as the President’s siding for the coalition parties has also lingering the stalemate.

MYAGDI: Vice President of Nepali Congress (NC), Ramchandra Paudel, said that the CA election could be ensured only under NC-led government.

Talking at a press meeting organized by Nepal Press Union, Myagdi chapter, here today, Vice President Paudel claimed the election held under NC leadership in the past have been justified to be fair, adding that, the next Constituent Assembly election should also be held under NC leadership.

The political parties failed to forge consensus as the Unified CPN (Maoist) and some Madhesh based political parties did not want election by fearing that result of the CA election would come against them, said NC leader Paudel.

It has been justified that the UCPN-Maoist did not want the election for the Chairman of the party publicly delivered his speech for continuing the current government for more 10 years, he added.

The opposition parties would organize stern protest for institutionalizing democracy in the country as the current government encouraged anarchism and totalitarianism at a time when the constitutional bodies were vacating and President became more flexible.

“The political parties in the government alliance have been stiffer when President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav becomes flexible,” said Paudel.

The CA election under this government´s leadership was not possible and that there is no alternative to stern protest for the fresh election,” added NC Vice President Paudel.
