KATHMANDU, Sept 22: Metropolitan Traffic Police Division has mobilized 500 volunteers in different parts of the valley keeping in attention the traffic rush on the eve of the upcoming festivals Dashain, Tihar and Chhath.

The information was shared during a function organized jointly by the Traffic Police Division and the National Youth Council and UN Nepal in the capital on Sunday.

According to the Division, volunteers from 23 schools and colleges, two youth clubs and 16 transport offices have been mobilized in the valley streets under the Youth Mobilization Year-2076, while 10 popular artists and 12 air hostages are also joining the campaign.

The volunteers will help the pedestrian cross the roads through zebra crossing; help them use footpaths and sky bridge; help in the management of pick and drop as well as passengers at bus stops; and help the traffic in maintaining lane.

They will be mobilized in major parts of the valley including Durbarmarga, Keshar Mahal, Jamal, Ranodipp, Tri-Chandra College road, Votahiti, Bir Hospital, Juddha Salik, New Road, Nagasthan, Thapathali, Tripureshwor, Putalisadak, Singha Durbar, Maitighar, Kupondol, Pulchowk, Koteshwor, Baneshwor, Kalimati, Kalanki, New Buspark, Maharajgunj, Gaushala and in front of the B&B Hospital.

Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa and Inspector General of Nepal Police Sarbendra Khanal distributed uniform and identity cards to the volunteers.

Youth Council’s Executive Vice-president Madhav Dhungel, Kathmandu Mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya, Youth and Sports Ministry Secretary Ram Prasad Thapaliya, Additional Inspector General of Police Thule Rai, Sports Ministry Vice-secretary Krishna Bahadur Basyal, Kathmandu Chief District Officer Janak Raj Dahal, Metropolitan Police Division Ranipokhari Chief Deputy Inspector General of Police Sailesh Thapa Tshetri, UNV Country Coordinator Moon Gurung, Federation of Nepal National Transport Entrepreneurs General Secretary Sajor Sitaula were also present in the program.

Also present on the occasion were ministers, former prime ministers, former chief justice and former speaker, heads of constitutional bodies, heads of diplomatic mission, political party leaders, high-ranking government officials, industrialist and social workers.

BIRATNAGAR, Oct 12: Traders in Morang alone have imported apples worth fifty million rupees targeting the upcoming Tihar and Chhat festivals.

A total of 75 truckloads or 15 million cartoons of apple have been imported already, central member of Fruit Entrepreneurs Association, Nagendra Das said. There are more than 50 apple wholesalers and around 3,000 retails in eastern region.

Nagendra Traders of Biratnagar has been importing apples from India targeting the markets in the region. Apples are imported from Himanchal and Kashmir of India and from China as well.

The significantly larger amount is due to the comparatively higher demand for apples during the festival season, like Dashain, Tihar and Chhath, said Das, who runs the Nagendra traders in Biratnagar-6. RSS

Kathmandu: The auspicious hour for the bhai tika is at 11:27 am, according to the Nepal Calendar Determination Committee.

However, the hours ahead and after it thorough out Tuesday are also equally auspicious, the Committee has said.
The fifth and last day of Tihar is Bhai Tika, when where sisters put tika on the foreheads of brothers, to ensure long life, and thank them for the protection they give.When the sisters give the tika, the brothers give gifts or money in return.

The puja follows a traditional ritual in which sisters circle brothers three times dripping oil on the floor from a copper pitcher. Afterwards, sisters put oil in brother’s ears and hair, then give tika. Breaking of walnuts by sisters before giving tika to brothers is a common practice.

Kathmandu: President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav has urged one and all to be conscious in the November 19 Constituent Assembly election and to contribute to the nation and nationality from their respective quarters.
The Head of State made this call today in his message of best wishes given on the auspicious occasion of the Deepawali and Tihar, the second largest festivals of Nepalese today.
“The festivals of Deepawali and Tihar which are celebrated as special festivals of light that bring light by removing darkness would bring economic prosperity to Nepalis and promote brotherhood, social amity and unity,” stated President Dr Yadav.
Similarly, Vice President Paramananda Jha, in a message of best wishes on the occasion, expressed the belief that the country would get a democratic constitution as per the people’s aspirations from the second election of the constituent assembly.
Similarly, in a message of best wishes on the occasion of Deepawali, Chairman of the Council of Ministers Khil Raj Regmi has called on all Nepali brothers and sisters to make the forthcoming Constituent Assembly election successful by making use of their constitutionally provided right- the right to vote.    Chairman Regmi has said that conducting the Constituent Assembly election slated for November 19 has become our only objective for that purpose, he added.

Tihar, the second largest festival of the Nepali Hindus and alike begins from today. Also known as Yampanchak, the festival is observed for five days.
Bhai Tika falls on November 5 this year. The auspicious hour for the bhai tika this tihar is at 11:27 am, according to the Nepal Calendar Determination Committee.
The first day of the Yamapanchak today has been observed as Kaag Tihar by feeding crows, regarded as  messengers in the Nepali society.

Decorating homes with colourful lights, flowers and oil-fed lamps as well as eating various delicacies including sweets and sel roti are part of this festival of lights. Playing of deusi bhailo and worshipping of different animals and birds are also significant aspect of this festival.
