Joint Struggle Committee warns of Strong protest



Kathmandu, October 19. Joint Struggle Committee Nepal 2071 has threatened to launch stringent protest if federal structure of the country delineated based on the ethnic identity.

Organizing a press conference at the Reporters’ Club Nepal on Sunday, the joint committee ruled out the prospect of delineating ethnic-identity-based federal states in the incredibly diverse country like Nepal where a total of 125 ethnic communities 123 different languages are being existed.

Taking strong exception over enlisting Chettri, Dasnami, Brahamin and Thakuri under miscellaneous category in the interim constitution of the country, it has put forth six-point demands and sought implementation of previous agreements signed with government.

Chairman of the committee, Professor Dr Dil Bahadur Chettri warned that country will fell into ethnic clinging like in Ruwanda and Sudan if federal structure of the country demarcated based on ethnic-identity. He said, -” It is better to transform the five development region into the federal states. ”

Meanwhile, the committee has also unveiled different protest program. According to decision, it will form district struggle committees in all the districts within November 9. Similarly, the committee will submit memorandum letters to government through Chief District Officer (CDO) in the all the districts on November 10.

Likewise, it will also summit the memorandum to Priime Minister, Chairman of the constituent Assembly and leaders of political parties. It has also decided to hold mass meetings in all the districts and five development regions as part of protest program.
