Referendum on major issues of constitution: Bhandari

Kathmandu, October 25. CPN-UML Vice-chairwoman Bidhya Devi Bhandari has said that parties should go for referendum to decide crucial issues of new constitution if consensus was not forged.

At a meeting with the women journalists at her residence on Friday on the occasion of Nepal Sambat, Tihar and Chhath, Bhandari said that disputed issues of new constitution should be kept aside and go to the people to promulgate the new constitution by January 22, 2015.

“New constitution should be promulgated before January 22 if consensus was not forged in federalism and form of governance. Country should not be made a hostage of indecision,” Bhandari said.

She also pointed out the need for bringing the new constitution even by putting the disputed issues on vote adding that constitution would not be drafted only by extending the time.

On the occasion, she pledged her support for making the media policy women-friendly. During the meeting, Vice-chair of Federation of Nepali Journalist (FNJ) Anita Bindu, journalist Yeshoda Timsina, Deputy General Manager of Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS) Nirmala Acharya, chair of Working Women Journalists (WWJ) Shubhechchha Bindu Tuladhar, general secretary of Sancharika Samuha Nitu Pandit and other women journalists shared the problems women journalists facing.
