Gadhimai-fair celebration committee formed

Kathmandu, Nov 03. The Sundarpur area of Sangrampur VDC has started with preparations to celebrate the Gadhimai-fair in November, 2014.

A recent all-party meeting in the district decided to form a nine-member ‘Gadhimai-Fair organizing committee’ under the co-ordination of Chulhai Yadav. Devotees from all over the country, especially from the Tarai districts — Bara, Parsa, Rautahat, Sarlahi — and those from India will attend the fair which will last for two weeks.

Gadhimai fair is a month-long Hindu festivity held once every five years at the Gadhimai temple of Bariyarpur, in Bara District. The event involves sacrifice of animals with the goal of pleasing Gadhimai, the goddess of power. -RSS
