India confirms Modi’s visit outside Valley cancelled

Kathmandu, November 23. Spokesperson for Indian Ministry of External Affairs, Syed Akbaruddin, on Sunday confirmed that the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has cancelled his purported visit to religious sites in Nepal.

Spokesperson Akbaruddin said in his twitter message that PM Modi will visit Nepal only to attend the SAARC Summit. The official cited “domestic commitments in India” as the reason behind the cancellation of trips. He further added that PM Modi deeply values special relationship between Nepal and India. “He looks forward to early opportunity to visit other places in Nepal,” said Akbaruddin.

Earlier, Modi is said to have planned religious trips to Janakpur, the birth place of Sita; Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha and Muktinath, a Vishnu temple.
