Shrestha for fresh talks among parties after cancelling the ongoing process



KATHMANDU, Feb 01: Vice-Chairman of the UCPN (Maoist) Narayankaji Shrestha has said that his party was ready to participate in new constitution writing process from a new prospective if the ruling parties cancelled the ongoing process of the Constituent Assembly (CA).

Receiving a memorandum letter of the Reporters´ Club Nepal at his own residence at Hattiban on today,  Leader Shrestha expressed the view that government coalition political parties Nepali Congress and CPN- UML should be ready to move ahead through consensus by giving-up the stance of majority.

Shrestha said , ” It is still possibilities to forge the consensus among the political parties on the disputed issues of the constitution, but NC and UML should have to stop the ongoing procedures of the constitution writing.”

Stating that the UCPN (Maoist) was not against dialogue and consensus, he blamed the Nepali Congress and CPN-UML for closing the door of discussion by initiating the majority process.

Vice-Chairman Shrestha stressed that consensus was necessity among the partners of the people´s movement, the 12-point agreement, the Comprehensive Peace Accord and other agreements to institutionalize the achievements gained by the people through struggle, while speaking the program presided by the Club’s president Rishi Dhamala.

He clarified that the UCPN (Maoist) would not be out of the CA.  Shrestha has stressed that the UCPN-Maoist party and its leaders are now standing in unitedly, He said-” We have decided to hold the nationwide protests by consensus.” “It was a compulsion for us to protest after NC and CPN-UML obstinately moved ahead with majority voting process,” said Shrestha.

Saying that his party is not against consensus and dialogues, the UCPN (M) Vice Chairman alleged the ruling parties of shutting the door for talks by implementing majority voting process. Shrestha said the rescheduling of the dialogues could take place if the ruling alliance commits to move ahead in consensus by stalling the process immediately.

Responding to queries raised by the journalists on UCPN (M)’s power-sharing, leader Shrestha said, “Our current agenda is to promulgate the constitution through CA, we don’t want to obstruct the promulgation of the constitution by creating other unnecessary agendas.”
He said the promulgation of new constitution is necessary to institutionalise the achievements.

He thanked to the Reporters’ Club Nepal for giving the pressures on forging the consensus among the political parties.
