OAG presents annual report to President



Kathmandu, Feb 7: The Office of Attorney General has presented its annual report for the Fiscal Year 2071- 72 BS to the President.

Attorney General Hari Krishna Karki presented the report to President Bidya Devi Bhandari amidst a programme today at Rastrapati Bhawan, Shital Niwas.
During the year, 23060 cases were prosecuted by the government and 57,942 cases were defended, the report states.
A total of 29,448 cases of public offense were reported across the country during this period while the number of social crimes stood at 9,181. Similarly, there were 3,189 cases of organised and financial crime, 5172 crimes related to murder, 4322 incidents of suicide and 2331 cases of crime against women and children, 1309 cases of theft, 202 miscellaneous cases that took place in this period.
The Central region tops the list of crimes with 12,176 incidents of crime alone in this period while the far-western region witnessed 1,249 cases which is the least number of crimes among the five regions.
On the occasion, OAG Karki stressed the need of carrying out the works of organisational structure of OAG and its subordinate bodies as per the provision set by the constitution, management of perks and facilities to its employees as per the law and identifying the sectors for reform of Criminal Justice Administration, among others.
Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Agni Kharel, Chief Secretary Dr Somlal Subedi and high ranking officials at OAG and the Office of President were present on the occasion.
