FLOOD ENGULFS EASTERN CHITWAN

KATHMANDU,Aug 13: The torrential downpour since past three days has disrupted the supply of electricity in the eastern Terai.

The flood caused by the incessant rainfall has sub-merged many substations and collapsed poles along the transmission lines causing blackout in most places of the region, according the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA).

According to NEA, the power supply has been disrupted in Siraha, Saptari, Sunsari, Morang and Jhapa districts for the past two days.

It will take about two days to resupply the electricity after the rain stops according the NEA.

Meanwhile, most places of Eastern Chitwan have been inundated after the overflowed water from Rapti, Kayarkhola, Ladari and Padamkhola entered the human settlements. Khairani, Parsa, Bhandara, Ratnanagar and some other places were engulfed by the overflowed rivers, according the Chitwan based reporter Krishna Poudel.

The telecommunication and electric supply has also been disrupted due to the downpour.

Swollen Rapti and Budhirapti rivers have inundated many hotels in the tourist destination which has left about 600 tourists stranded.  The trapped tourists were moved to upper floors with the helped of tamed elephant, said a hotel manager in Chitwan.

About 700 internal and foreign tourist have also been affected by the heavy rainfall, said Poudel.
