Moonlight Wins the Oscar for Best Picture

LOS ANGELES Feb 27: Moonlight has won the Oscar for Best Picture at the 89th Academy Awards. The film beat out other movies including La La Land, Arrival, Hidden Figures, Manchester By the Sea, and more for the coveted accolade.

It marks the third award for the Barry Jenkins-directed picture tonight. Earlier in the eveningm Mahershala Ali won for Best Supporting Actor, and the film won Best Adapted Screenplay as well. Moonlight was nominated for 8 awards in total.

La La Land Incorrectly Declared Best Picture Winner

La La Land was initially declared the winner after Warren Beatty was given the incorrect cue card. Halfway through the La La Land cast and crew’s acceptance speech, they were interrupted and Moonlight was declared the winner.

The error was clarified. (“We lost, by the way.”) Eventually, the correct card was shown on camera, and the team behind Moonlight took the stage. Earlier in the evening, La La Land won awards for Best Original Score, Best Original Song, Best Actress, Best Cinematography, Best Director, and Best Production Design. La La Land was nominated for 14 awards in total.AGENCIES
