KATHMANDU, Feb 22: Community Radio Didi Bahini is organizing the Ninth Western Women’s Festival and Radio’s seventh anniversary 2017 from March 7 to 13 on the occasion of 107th International Labor Women’s Day.

The Festival will be organized at Bandra Bidi Ground of Kushma in Parbat District.

The radio has been organizing the Festival since its establishment on 2010 March 8.

Chairman of Radio Didi Bahini and House member Kalpana Chapagain, speaking during a press conference organized at the Reporters’ Club Nepal today, informed that the major attraction of the Festival would be ‘the First Didibahini Cup National Volleyball Tournament.

Similarly, Ratyouli, vhajan competition, school level group dance and debate competition, rally show competition, free health camp, musical performance from various lok artists, comedy show and awareness program will be the other features of this Festival.

Likewise, the Festival will felicitate elders, orphan children, single women, handicapped and women industrialist during the program, informed chairperson Chapagain.

The Festival will also aim to strengthen the voice of females in women’s empowerment, added Chapagain.

She also thanked Reporters’ Club and Radio Network’s President Rishi Dhamala for sponsoring the gallery for organizing the press conference.

Also, journo Dhamala expressed his belief that the Festival would help in the empowerment of women. He also appreciated Radio Didi Bahini for organizing such Festival and appealed all the news media to help in making the Festival a successful event.

The Festival will be inaugurated by Vice-president of Nepal Nanda Bahadur Pun.

The chief sponsor of the Festival is Nepal Telecom and its official media is Avenues Television. Likewise, the prizes for the Didi Bahini National Women’s Volleyball tournament is sponsored by Sabitri Agarbatti, Nepal Transport Entrepreneur Association and Parbat Club of Hongkong.

The Radio which is operated by women has presented itself as an example for bringing a new scope for women struggle in the patriarchal society of Nepal. The Radio was awarded with Journalism Award 2012 for its contribution in women empowerment.
