Nepal tightens security across its Northern border with China
KATHMANDU: Nepal beefed up security at its most busy trade transit point- Tatopani along its border with China. The security measures were taken considering the 18th National Congress of Communist Party of China due to start from Thursday.
Entry into the Chinese town of Khasa, a major business hub for Nepali exporters, were banned since Sunday after both Chinese and Nepalese security officials from Sindhupalchowk discussed the issue.
The border will be closed for those willing to enter the town through temporary passes.
Nepalese officials informed that such security measures were taken to avoid possible anti-Chinese protests by pro-Tibetan groups.
Similarly exports and import transports vehicles and utilities have been thoroughly checked at the transit and though the Chinese side had agreed to dispatch 90 trucks every day, it has been not so, a Nepalese customs official reported.
