Nepal police finds abandoned smuggled 3 Kg gold at China-Nepal customs

KATHMANDU: Smuggling of Chinese gold in Nepal has intensified in the recent weeks. On Sunday, a custom patrol team of Nepal’s armed police force (APF) recovered 3 kgs of unattended gold near the nation’s northern dry port- Tatopan- bordering with China.

The gold was found near the Tatopani Customs Office at Tatopani in Sindupalchok, the district bordering Nepal and Tibet of China.

The gold was found unattended near the side of the road by the team after the search team led by AFP’s SP Kamal Giri got a hint from its sources that gold was smuggled.

Though the police remained unable to detain anyone in relation to the gold, it has beefed up security around the area.

As per the local market values, the gold cost over Rs 13 million. The police team had confiscated 9 kg of gold from a container enroute to Kathmandu from Tatopani in Dhulikhel on Dec 4.
