Renewable Energy Week kicks off

KATHMANDU: The government has announced an ambitious plan to free all houses from ‘smoke inside the house’ by 2017 by using clean energy technology.

Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai announced the plan in the capital on Sunday inaugurating the Renewable Energy Week-2013. As per the announcement, all the people in the country would be provided with the improved ovens within five years.

Addressing the program, Dr Bhattarai said generating only 700 Megawatts of power in a country with immense hydropower potential is a matter of displeasure. “The nation should not depend on only one sort of energy resources,” the Prime Minister urged locals calling to use other alternative energy. Prime Minister Bhattarai underscored the need to mobilize the resources for renewable energy.
