Independent figure a no no as new prime minister, says Oli
NEPALGUNJ: Senior Leader of the CPN (UML), KP Sharma Oli has ruled out the possibility of the formation of a national consensus government under the leadership of an independent candidate.
Speaking at a press meet organised by Press Chautari Nepal, Banke chapter here today, leader Oli said a national consensus government cannot be formed under the leadership of an independent person as claimed by the UCPN (Maoist).
It would be beneficial for all the political parties if a consensus government is constituted under the leadership of Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala, he said.
He said an alternative to the Congress President for the prime ministerial candidate could be sought from his party itself if a situation of forging package agreement among the political parties came.
Responding to a query of journalists, leader Oli said it were not the opposition parties but the UCPN (Maoist) which did not want fresh Constituent Assembly elections. New election under the leadership of the incumbent government is not possible under any circumstances, he said.
The UML leader said participating in the election headed by the incumbent government, which has already lost the moral and constitutional grounds, was like surrendering before him.
