Ruling Maoist jamboree put off till tomorrow, Prachanda doles two more pages

KATHMANDU: The closed session of the ongoing seventh general convention of ruling UCPN (Maoist) that started hours late due to conflict today has been put off till tomorrow.

The meeting was put off after the general convention delegates demanded more times for studying the report of party Chairman and other dissenting reports. On Sunday, party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ had tabled a 65-page-long document.
Leaders Gopal Kiranti, Sonam Sathi and Ram Karki have tabled separate documents for discussions.

Similarly, Vice-chairman Narayan Kaji Shrestha ‘Prakash’ is also expected to table a different political document challenging the chairman Prachanda’s political dossier. Earlier, today’s meeting had formed 61 different groups for group-wise discussions on the documents.

Meanwhile, Prachanda two more pages to his dossier on Monday claiming that they were missed in the original document. The new pages incorporate issues raised by his deputy Narayan Kaji Shrestha, and party members Gopal Kiranti.

Party at crossroads over leadership row:

Knowledgeble sources in the party have claimed that the future leadership of the party has been still a contended topic in the general convention.

Though most of the delegates and party leaders have expressed willingness to reinstate Prachanda as the chairman of the party, some party comrades have expressed different opinion on candidacies for the vice chair, general secretary, secretary, and central committee members.

Three big wigs of the party- Prachanda, Bhattarai and Narayan Kaji are competing for 40 percent share of the total central committee membership for their faction leaders along with respectful representation in the office bearers.
