Monkeys cannot be asked to protect crops, K P Oli says

CPN UML senior leader K P Oli

DHANGADHI: CPN (UML) leader KP Sharma Oli has said that the opposition parties committed a blunder by not stopping current Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai from being the head of the government.

The democratic forces should not give a serious job of institutionalizing democracy to the undemocratic party like UCPN (Maoist), the vocal critic of the UCPN (Maoist) said addressing an anti-government demonstration in Dhangadhi organized by the opposition parties.

“The Maoists are working to derail the constitution making process and brining serious political crisis,” Oli blamed the Maoists.

“The monkeys cannot be asked to protect the crops,” the UML leader said accusing the Maoists of damaging the democratic values.

Addressing the same mass meeting, Nepali Congress leader Ram Sharan Mahat blamed the Maoists for creating present mess in the country. He was of the view that the Bhattarai-led government should be boycotted from all walks of life, forcing him to resign. The former finance minister also criticized the Maoist chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s political documents saying that his proposal for founding a production brigade was just a fiasco.

Other opposition leaders also addressed the mass meeting urging to take to the streets against the current government. The mass meeting lasted only for an hour due to rainfall in the district. However, the participation of locals was not as expected though the rally organized had claimed to gather some 20,000 people from the region.
