Basnet sure to win YAN election

BUTWAL: Mahesh Basnet, the outgoing chairman of the CPN (UML)’s sister organization Youth Association of Nepal (YAN) is certain to be reelected as the chairman of the YAN by defeating his rival Niraj Acharya, YAN’s outgoing general secretary.

As per the vote count, Basnet is leading by more than 90 votes while there are only 70 votes for count.  The Basnet panel is leading in most of the posts in the vote counts. The final results of the vote counts are expected to come by late this evening.

UML leaders Madhav Kumar Nepal and KP Oli have backed the Basnet panel in the YAN election while party establishment faction has supported Acharya’s candidacy.

Earlier, 15 members of the YAN’s central have been elected unanimously.
