15 dead in Palpa bus accident (update)
PALPA: At least 15 passengers died and 20 others were injured in a bus accident along the Aryabhanjyang-Ramdi road stretch along the Siddhartha Highway. The bus (Lu 1 Kha 2795) carrying participant of a wedding ceremony fell some 300 meters off the road, according to the District Police Office Palpa.
The deceased are identified as Bed Bahadur Birkata, 60, Kamala Jargha, 27, Lok Bahadur Saru, 29, Nabina Suryabansi, 16, Kesh Kumari Birkata, 17, Yogendra Charti, 25, Keshari Saru, 25, and Bishnu Bahadur Charti, 45.
Similarly, Nabin Suryabansi, 18, Lulisara Saru, 30, Ramesh BK, 26, and driver Nabin BK of around 35 years old died in the accident, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Thaneshwor Regmi.
Similarly, those dying in the Lumbini Medical College while receiving treatment are Suraj Neupane, Rama Devi Saru and Amar Bahadur Jargha of Chidipani VDC in the district.
Most of the deceased are relatives and from the same village.
The incident site is 27 kms far from the district headquarters of Palpa, Tansen, to Syangja.
The injured including groom Roshan Charti and bride Bishnu Charti are undergoing treatment at Mission Hospital Palpa.
The bus met with the accident at around 10 pm at Chidipani-2 in Palpa district on Sunday while returning the same VDC from Khanichhap-7 of the district.
Survivors said that driver Milan BK had consumed alcohol at Ramdi while waiting for the participants of the marriage.
