KATHMANDU: Leaders of parties affiliated to the Federal Democratic Front called on Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai and demanded that the date for election to the Constituent Assembly (CA) be declared immediately for ensuring the election by mid-June.

During the meeting held at the Office of the Prime Minister, the leaders stressed on the need of formation of an election government immediately to hold free and fair election.

The Madhesi Janadhikar Forum-Nepal, Tamsaling Nepal Rastriya Dal, Rastriya Madhes Samaj party, Janamukti Party Nepal, Nepal Shanti Samaj Dal, Khumbuwan Autonomous Council, Newa Rastriya Party and Nepal Loktantrik Nagarik Dal are affiliated to the Front.

Talking briefly to media persons after the meeting, Chairman of the Madhesi Janadhikar Forum-Nepal, Upendra Yadav said that the decision made by leaders of the three parties could not be accepted as the decision of national consensus.

Yadav said that it is their stated view that an outlet to the existing stalemate should be found through consensus among all political parties as the decision made by the CPN-UML, UCPN-Maoist and Nepali Congress, who have already become a failure, could not resolve problems.

He said they called on the Prime Minister that new constituencies be declared on the basis of population and that bathe voters’ list be updated, adding that they would not withdraw the Nepal bandh called for Thursday if their demands were not addressed.

No conclusion has been reached on the topics raised by the Front due to differences among the parties on the issues, Yadav quoted the Prime Minister as saying. Yadav added that the Prime Minister was positive on their issues.

Similarly, Spokesperson of the Front, Parasuram Tamang, said that the Front has called for full proportional representation and added that election would not be acceptable to them if the number of proportional and inclusive seats in the new CA is less than that of the dissolved CA.
