Sushil Koirala’s stubbornness delays political consensus
KATHMANDU: The chances of political have been delayed, deferring the formation of an election government under the leadership of Chief Justice thanks to serious objection to Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala to give a colonel to the former Maoist fighters who have already integrated into the Nepal Army.
The UCPN (Maoist) has been sticking to its demand for two lieutenant colonel and one colonel posts to the ex-fighters.
Sources said that NC senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba and Vice-chairman Ram Chandra Poudel however are positive to the demand put forth by the Maoists.
The major bone of contentious has been the top post to be given to the ex Maoist fighters though all other issues including citizenship distribution, voters’ list update, removal of obstacles for CJ-led government were all cleared, leaders privy to the talks said.
