This is not time to think about polls alliance, NC gen secy Sitaula says

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress general secretary Krishna Prasad Sitaula has claimed that Nepal’s democracy would collapse if CA polls were not conducted by 2013.

At an interaction program in Reporters Club on Wednesday, the NC leader said the present government, political parties and office-bearers of the Election Commission would lose faith before the people.

Club’s Chairman Rishi Dhamala presided over the interaction program.

“Country’s democracy that has derailed after the CA dissolution would not come on track without holding the fresh CA polls. So, CA polls should be conducted in November at any cost,” Sitaula said.

He also charged the EC officials for not working effectively. He said many questions were raised about the elections and if voters’ name lists were not updated by June, polls in November are unlikely.

“This style of the EC cannot ensure polls in time,” he suspected the performance of the EC.

At a time when the UML leaders are throwing their weigh to the NC for a poll alliance, the NC general secretary said that no talk has been conducted so far regarding the poll alliance. “That is their personal expression. No talk has been held for this. The NC is not in a mood to forge the poll alliance,” he added.
